The Ailsa Came to international prominence in 1977, with the legendary between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson in the Open Championship. In brilliantly sunny weather, a capacity crowd was treated to an exhilarating display of golf from two of the finest players the world has ever seen.

This contest was the first of several epic clashes that have taken place on the Ailsa in recent years, with Greg Norman and Nick Price also battling through to win the coveted claret jug.

The Ailsa is Turnberry's masterpiece, a course that Colin Montgomerie has called:

'the finest links golf course in the world'
